Mumbai - a city of broken dreams!

Yes, it is a strong title, one which evokes anguish and pain, for a city that has been the foundation to my cultaural and social values. I am always proud to be a mumbaikar, but there are occasions where i hang my head in shame because of the noteriety that surrounds this city in the international arena.

Mumbai, a city long cherished for fulfiling long harboured dreams, is potpurri of spicy foods, fast life and nightly exhuberence. But sadly the adminstration and infrastructure woes continue to haunt this city, while it attempts to make a mark for itself as a truly metropolitan city. I am referring to latest news where the india's business capital is placed at 116th position in an annual survey that assessed living conditions in 140 global cities. A real shame indeed, when one accounts for Mumbai to be the city where urban development is the showcase of India's growth story. However, sadly, the story seems to be otherwise.

Continously plagued with stories of ineffective governance and malpractices in the municipal corporations, Mumbai finds itself in a mess of sorts. Questionable operational policies from BMC and MMRDA on assigning development contarcts and the never ending sags's of larger than craters, Potholes,  whose shell life seems to be more than the actual roads on which we travel, have made Mumbai a living hell.
